Guess who’s 1-year-old today? Starts With An X, that’s who! Yep, today is this blog’s birthday and I’m ready for some spankings, yo. I’ll accept presents, too, but spankings are better. The kind they give in rap videos.
Honestly, I can’t believe 365 days have passed since I ventured into the blogosphere with this post that pissed off most of my friends who are mothers. And, in case I haven’t mentioned before, all my friends — with the exception of those who live in Vegas — are mothers.
But, they’re not the only ones I’ve pissed off. Jake has cursed this blog like it’s my buff Latin lover cruising around in his Ferrari and eating his prime rib. It got started kinda early in the game, but this post is the one that had us discussing whether Jake should be permanently removed from The Characters page or just permanently removed from my life. If you ever want to give your man the upper hand, blog about what he did to give YOU the upper hand.
It’s not like I didn’t learn my lesson, though. I was granted permission to blog about this and even this. I know, I know. Jake is not only a featured character, he’s the star of the freakin’ show. He loves to point this out when he refers to the readers as his “fans.”
Enough about Jake, though. I want to give a few shout outs (because one-year-olds always give shout outs?) to the awesome people I’ve met in the past year. Most recently, Knochers over at Heart Shaped Cut Outs of Cheese. A fellow Las Vegas blogger!
I think the first one I connected with, though, was Carolyn. I still remember the first post of hers that I commented on. After Carolyn came Lil Sass, who needs to get back in blogging mode! Soon enough Undomestic Diva, Badass Geek, Mayberry Magpie, Kristin from Goin’ Country and Rachel at My Crazy Life were all these people whose lives I needed to catch up on daily — even though most of them could very well be the jackass on the plane who won’t shut the hell up and I’d never know it.
I’m happy I’ve gotten to know ALL of you. You guys make me laugh, and sometimes cry, every day.
Finally, I get asked a lot which is my favorite post. OK, no one’s ever asked that, but when they do — in my head — I always think of this one first and this one comes in a close second.

I can’t believe one year has passed. What a perfect time to tell X how proud I am of her. She had a vision and executed it to near perfection. Now the entire blogosphere know what I know, how special, creative, smart and wait for it … freaking hilarious she is. Although there have been times when this blog has caused some friction between X and I, the positives far outweigh the negatives because X is doing she loves. Plus, it’s strange and fun to think that I live in this parallel universe where people who’ve never seen me before know way too much about me and think my name is Jake. Can’t wait to continue reading for the next 10 years.
